What is a NAT VPS?

A plain explanation of NAT VPS hosting: how it works, what it is good for, and when you need something else.

A NAT VPS is a virtual private server that does not get a public IPv4 address of its own. Instead, many servers share one IPv4 address, and each one gets a block of ports on it that is forwarded straight to that server. IPv4 addresses are scarce and expensive, so sharing one is what makes a NAT VPS cost a fraction of a normal VPS. Most NAT VPS hosts, natbox included, also give every server a block of public IPv6 addresses of its own.
