IPv6 on natbox: a routed /80 for every server
Every natbox server, including the free trial, gets a routed /80 of public IPv6 addresses, for example 2a02:c207:2370:7002:11::/80. That is 248 addresses, all routed to your server, on every port, TCP and UDP, with no NAT or port forwarding in between.
What you get
- The first address, ending in
::1, is set up for you on new servers. Add more whenever you like (how). - Any port works over IPv6, including the ones that are shared over IPv4, like 80 and 443, or low ports such as 53.
- Give every service or website its own address, and point AAAA records straight at it.
- HTTP/3 (QUIC) and other UDP protocols work end to end.
Keep in mind
- We do not filter IPv6. Everything listening on your server is reachable, so set up a firewall (guide).
- Visitors need IPv6. Most mobile networks and many home connections have it, but not all. For a public website, also link your domain for IPv4 visitors (guide).
- Outgoing mail ports are blocked over IPv6 too.
Test your IPv6
ip -6 addr show eth0
ping -6 -c3 2606:4700:4700::1111
curl -6 https://ifconfig.co
See how it fits together with shared IPv4 in the network diagram, or pick a plan.
